She was at the age

Of no time for school

Or establishment rule

Where a jock is cool

And a geek’s a fool

She was at the age

Where everything’s new

And there’s too much to do

Where boys are many

And men too few

She at the age where

Boyfriends change

And images matter

Where women compete

And shallow friends scatter

She was at the age

Of learning to dance

And tasting romance

Where loving to flirt

Can flatter or hurt

She was at the age of

No mountain too big

No crevasse too steep

No river too wide

No cavern too deep

She was at the age

Of becoming a woman

No longer a girl

The oyster opens

Revealing it’s pearl
