History and Development:

During the 1980s, Keith acted as a wholesalers agent for Marshall Amplifiers. But as hard rock peaked in 1984, the era of master volumes on amplifiers began, leading Keith to approach Gar Gilles of Garnet Amplifiers with a unique challenge. Could Gar create a tone circuit that could handle high distortion levels while maintaining the lower mid grind reminiscent of bands like BTO from the early '70s?

Gar, affectionately known as "The Old Man," was a technical genius. Keith worked side by side with him for two years to tailor the sound to his preferences. By 1986, they had completed the original prototype. While it was a solid amp, there was an issue with noise when idling.

Orvis Thomas demos our pristine clean channel.
